What Are Tags?

Tags are custom keywords or phrases you assign to budget items. Unlike fixed categories, tags are versatile:

  • Multiple tags can be added to a single item

  • Tags can represent any concept (e.g., locations, departments, funding sources)

  • Items can be quickly filtered or grouped by tags

How Can You Use Tags?

Tags have many practical applications in budget management:

  1. Location tracking: Tag items with city names (e.g., "NYC", "LA") to track costs by location.

  2. Department allocation: Use tags like "Art Dept" or "Costume" to see spending across departments.

  3. Funding sources: Tag items with "Grant A" or "Investor B" to track how different funding is allocated.

  4. Tax credit eligibility: Add tags like "Tax Credit Eligible" to easily identify qualifying expenses.

  5. Project phases: Use tags like "Pre-production", "Production", "Post" to track costs across project stages.

Adding and Using Tags

  1. Locate the "Tags" column in your budget. If it's not visible, unhide it in your column settings.

  2. Click in a Tags cell for any line item.

  3. Type to create a new tag or select from existing tags.

  4. To filter your budget by tags, click "Select Tags" in the top left corner and choose your desired tags.

Tag Management

  • View all tags by clicking the Tags column header.

  • Edit tag names or colors from the tag management menu.

  • See totals for each tag in the Tags column header.

By using tags effectively, you can create custom views of your budget, perform detailed analysis, and gain insights that aren't possible with traditional budget categories alone. Experiment with different tagging strategies to find what works best for your projects.
