Add custom columns to contacts (Saturation 3.0)

Add fields to the Contacts sheet when the standard contact fields do not cover information your team tracks. Contact custom columns are shared across the workspace.

How contact custom columns are shared

Contact custom columns are workspace-scoped. When a member creates a column, its definition is saved to the workspace and appears on both the workspace Contacts page and project Contacts pages. Values entered for a contact are saved with that contact, so teammates see the same values on another browser or device.

Anyone who can view the relevant Contacts page can view the shared columns and values. Creating, changing, deleting, reordering, locking, or entering values requires permission to manage workspace contacts.

Add a column

  1. Open Contacts from the workspace navigation, or open a project and select Contacts.

  2. Select Columns in the sheet toolbar.

  3. Select Add column at the bottom of the menu.

  4. Enter a column name.

  5. Choose a field type.

  6. Select Add column.

You can create up to 50 custom columns in the workspace Contacts scope.

Choose a field type

Contact custom columns support these types:

  • Text for short text

  • Long text for notes or descriptions

  • URL, Phone, or Email for formatted contact information

  • Number (display-only) for a number that does not calculate a total

  • Date

  • Checkbox

  • Single select or Multi-select for a set of choices

  • Person for a workspace member or a contact

When you choose Person, use People from to select Workspace members or Contacts.

The File type is not available for contact columns.

Enter and edit values

Select a cell in the custom column and enter its value. Checkbox, date, person, and select fields use controls suited to their field type.

For a single-select or multi-select column, you can add choices from a cell in that column. Those choices belong to the shared column and are available for other contacts and teammates.

Rename, move, duplicate, or lock a column

Open the menu in a custom column header to manage it:

  • Rename changes the heading without changing its values.

  • Move left or Move right changes its position among standard and custom columns.

  • Duplicate copies the field type and settings into a new empty column. It does not copy contact values.

  • Lock prevents changes to cells in that column until you unlock it.

  • Hide removes the column from the sheet without deleting its definition or values. Show it again from the Columns menu.

The Add column dialog does not change a column's field type after it is created. Create a new column if you need a different type.

Delete a column

Select Delete from the column header menu to remove the custom column from active Contacts views. Its stored values are no longer shown while the column is deleted. Select Undo in the Column deleted toast to restore it.
